Brian Schmetzer Disappointed with Home Defeat against Kansas City

Seattle Sounders manager Brian Schmetzer has admitted that his team cannot afford to lose three goals at home and still think about winning the match. His comments come after the 3-2 defeat against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday. Seattle had already been receiving plenty of setbacks in their efforts to challenge Los Angeles FC at the top of the Western Conference table. However, the game at CenturyLink Field witnessed Seattle Sounders end up losing for the second consecutive game.

The loss against Kansas City Wizards is in the second defeat in three games for Seattle, who have now dropped to 4th in the table with Minnesota United and San Jose Earthquakes ahead. The pressure from LA Galaxy is also turning on with the club just one point behind. Seattle received a double setback after just 33 minutes following a brace from Felipe Gutierrez. Even though Jordan Morris was able to pull one back just before half-time, Erik Hurtado’s goal in the second half made the game safe for Kansas City and rendered the second goal from Morris has only a consolation. The Seattle team has to recover quickly before they face New England Revolution once again at home next weekend.

Seattle Get Late Winner over Vancouver Whitecaps to Reverse Losing Sequence

Seattle Sounders were able to grab a crucial victory over Vancouver Whitecaps to arrest a run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions. This was also the first victory for Seattle since beating Orlando City in the middle of May. Brian Schmetzer was coming under pressure owing to this disappointing form since the start of the campaign. As a result, the two Los Angeles teams have been able to make substantial inroads into the top of the Western Conference table. LA Galaxy have a two-point advantage – after having played a game more – while LAFC have been able to open up an eight-point advantage after having played the same number of matches as Seattle.

In such a situation, the game had to go in favour of Seattle, who were playing in front of their own supporters. Just when it seemed that the match was to end in a goalless draw, Kelvin Leerdam was able to come up with a winner in the sixth minute of injury time. This was almost the last kick of the game. Seattle had put in an impressive performance, but manager Schmetzer says that he expected a victory for Seattle after the substantial improvement shown in the second half. The first half was a dull affair with both teams struggling to break the opposition.

Seattle Sounders’ recent match against Los Angeles was a test of resilience for them and they came out with absolute flying colors.

Seattle was slightly on the back-foot ahead of the game because they had locked horns with LA only a few days back and had got absolutely hammered by four goals to one. But they seemed to be pumped up to avenge that as they took the pitch on Sunday and dramatically managed to get a lead in the very first minute of the game, leaving LA shell shocked.

However that happiness turned into anguish pretty soon as not only the visitors managed to level the proceedings just a couple of minutes later, Seattle thereafter went one man short too as Cristian Roldan received marching orders from the referee for a foul.

Seattle Sounders Lose Alonso to Minnesota United

Seattle Sounders have lost a major part of the squad after Osvaldo Alonso has decided to quit the club for Minnesota United. Alonso is the all-time leader in the Seattle Sounders history when it comes to the number of starts, appearances, and minutes spent on the pitch. He has been part of the Seattle set up since 2009 and he was also the last member of the original team that debuted in that season. Brian Schmetzer has been able to see Alonso from close up for almost a decade and he says that the player remains an icon in various aspects.

Alonso has had an immense impact at Seattle Sounders due to his drive and determination, which was apparent even in training, according to the manager. After having been able to claim the MLS Cup title by beating Toronto FC, Alonso has now been able to leave on a high. The Cuban has been able to win the team MVP on five occasions and he was also named in the MLS All-Star team on four occasions. He is only 13 appearances behind Zach Scott for the most number of appearances for Seattle Sounders across all competitions and this record goes back to 1974.

Seattle Sounders boss responds after playoff disappointment

Seattle Sounders boss Brian Schmetzer has literally no complaints following the team’s playoff exit to Western Conference rivals Portland Timbers. The Sounders suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of the playoffs on the road but they managed to level the aggregate in the reverse leg where five goals were scored in just 29 second half minutes.

With the scores level, progression had to be decided on a penalty shootout and Timbers eventually prevailed to reach the Western Conference finals, where they are scheduled to face Sporting Kansas City.
