SEATTLE BOUNCE BACK

There has been a lot of questions asked about Seattle Sounders prior to the start of the season, but they seem to be responding in the best possible fashion. Seattle Sounders came out of the Champions League quarter-finals after suffering a defeat at the hands of Santos Laguna, which has led to a lot of questions being raised with regard to the ability of the team to fight at the top of the table.

However, led by the hugely impressive former United States goalkeeper Kasey Keller, they seem to be doing extremely well. The loss of players like James Riley has been one of the crucial factors in the supposed instability of the team prior to the start of the season.

So far, there have been for games played in the regular season and Seattle sounders have been able to get by them by just conceding two goals. This hugely impressive record has enabled them to get two victories in the last four matches. Patrick Ianni has been an impressive defender for Seattle Sounders in these matches, as he has played every minute of the four matches so far this season.

Seattle Keep 10

The Seattle Sounders have named 10 players from their current 2018 squad that they are going to be retaining for the next season. Whilst most of the names in the list are to be expected, there are a couple of key players who have missed out which has raised a few eyebrows.

The most prominent name which has missed out is Osvaldo Alonso, who has provided his services to the club for a very long time, and will be missed by the fans.

After making the move to Seattle in 2009, Alonso has remained associated with the club ever since and has played a major role in club’s success over the years. Alonso’s physical game in the holding role in the midfield earned him a famous nickname “Honey Badger” at Seattle. Continue reading “Seattle Keep 10”

SEATTLE SOUNDERS LOSE TO RANGERS

Seattle Sounders lost 4-2 to the Rangers when both sides clashed at Shawnee Mission South District Stadium on Saturday. It is a continuance of a perfect record for the Rangers as they hosted their rivals in their homes opener.

Having performed well in their pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen, who are one of the top teams in German Football, it was a disappointing start to the season for the Sounders. Continue reading “SEATTLE SOUNDERS LOSE TO RANGERS”

Seattle Sounders Only Manage a Draw in Victor Rodriguez’ Debut

Seattle Sounders were only able to secure a 1-1 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps in the recent league match.

The club have been on a great run of form over the last few weeks, but the streak of three consecutive wins was brought to an end with the draw against Vancouver. Still, it was a positive result for the club considering that most of the table rivals were also dropping points. After having had a mediocre start to the campaign, Seattle Sounders are now pushing for a MLS cup title. The defending champions are unbeaten in the last 11 league matches. The club’s last defeat was away against New York City.

Victor Rodriguez was one of the new faces for Seattle Sounders in the game against Vancouver, as he came up with a strong debut. The Spanish midfielder was signed earlier this month and the 28-year-old winger was able to get a penalty. This was converted by Nicolas Lodeiro, but Seattle Sounders were unable to hang on to this advantage. Continue reading “Seattle Sounders Only Manage a Draw in Victor Rodriguez’ Debut”

Seattle Sounders sign Victor Rodriguez from Sporting Gijon

Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders have announced the arrival of Spanish winger Víctor Rodríguez from La Liga B club Sporting Gijon.

The 28-year-old had started training with the Sounders on Monday, but the move was kept on hold until all paperwork had been finalised. Rodriguez becomes the Sounders’ second recruit of the transfer window following the signing of Dutch full-back Kelvin Leerdam on July 1.

Rodriguez has spent his entire professional career in his home nation where he has racked over 230 outings for Badalona, Vilajuiga, Zaragoza, Elche, Getafe and Sporting Gijon. The Spaniard had been closely watched by sporting director Chris Henderson over the past 24 months, and club president Garth Lagerwey is pleased that the attacker has been added to the squad.

“[Rodríguez] is a player [Vice President of Soccer and Sporting Director] Chris Henderson has scouted for almost two years now,” Lagerwey said. “He’s seen him multiple times live and I want to give Chris a lot of credit because he really was dogged about this one. He had never been available and suddenly he was available and popped up and we thought, ‘Well, OK this is a guy we’ve been tracking for a while and are pretty excited about.’” Continue reading “Seattle Sounders sign Victor Rodriguez from Sporting Gijon”

Seattle Sounders back in for Paraguayan midfielder

Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders are once again being linked with a summer move for Dynamo Kiev’s Derlis Gonzalez.

The MLS Cup winners had walked away from a deal due to Dynamo’s transfer fee demands earlier in the month, but it appears that the move is back on track. Paraguay radio station ABC Cardinal suggests that Gonzalez will link up with the American outfit following Dynamo’s Champions League two-legged tie against Young Boys. The Ukrainian giants clinched a 3-1 victory at home in the third qualifying round, and they will hope to maintain their lead in order to head into playoffs next month.

Should the report be true, the Paraguay international could be a game-changing signing for the Sounders, who have enjoyed a good run of form which has propelled them up to fifth in the standings. The 23-year-old has often featured as a left-sided midfielder, but he is also capable of taking up an attacking position. Gonzalez joined Dynamo from Swiss giants Basel back in 2015, and he has since bagged five goals in 35 league outings. Continue reading “Seattle Sounders back in for Paraguayan midfielder”
