Seattle Sounders have maintained their winning run in the MLS (Major League Soccer) following their straightforward victory over Los Angeles (LAFC) at the weekend. Seattle Sounders ran out 2-0 winners at the expense of their visitors at Lumen Field. Xavier Arreaga and Brad Smith were on target to help the Seattle Sounders to a fourth successive win in the league.

MLS Cup finalists Seattle Sounders are the early pacesetters in the Western Conference and the latest win takes them up to 16 points from six games. They have four more points than LA Galaxy whom they thrashed 3-0 at home in the third week of the new MLS season. It must be pointed out that LA Galaxy have an outstanding game over Sounders and a win in that extra match will see them move within one point of the leaders. For now, the gap between the top two teams in the Western Conference stays at four points.

Seattle Sounders manager Brian Schmetzer and his players have been in excellent form at the start of the 2021 MLS season. Schmetzer has been getting the results without some of his key players. The win at home to LAFC was recorded without important players like Stefan Frei and skipper Nicholas Lodeiro. He also has to contend with the news that Jordan Morris won’t play again this season after a serious injury.

LAFC were the last team to stop Seattle Sounders from winning in the league in week two after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in Los Angeles. The draw at LAFC came on the back of the back of the 4-0 thrashing of Minnesota United. Since that draw, Seattle Sounders have beaten LA Galaxy 3-0 at home, Portland Timbers 2-1 away from home, San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 away from home and LAFC 2-0 at home.

Sounders are one of just two unbeaten teams in the new MLS season. Orlando City are the other unbeaten team and they are in the Eastern Conference.
