Brian Schmetzer Speaks about Recovering Seattle Sounders’ Form

Seattle Sounders have been going to a disastrous run of form in the 2017 MLS campaign, and the club has lost their last three games to drop into 10th place of the Western Conference table.

The club have already fallen 12 points behind table leaders Sporting Kansas City after having played just 11 matches. There is a lot of pressure on manager Brian Schmetzer following this poor start to the campaign, despite coming into the 2017 season as the defending MLS Cup champions. One of the factors for the club’s poor performance has been the frequent unavailability of star players like Clint Dempsey.

The former Fulham forward has been amongst the top scorers at the club with four goals. Yet, he has not been playing consistently. The goal in the 3-0 win over LA Galaxy was the first of the campaign for Seattle Sounders. It has been reported that the forward has not completely recovered from the heart issue that forced the player to miss the second half of last campaign. Dempsey to train

Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey have received medical clearance that allows him to train normally with his team.

The player had to end his season prematurely last year as he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

Seattle Sounders did not want to take any risk with the player and allowed him to take time off from the team and focus on his treatment.

However, the player has now received medical approval to train again with the team as it appears that his heartbeat has returned to normal.

Clint Dempsey has returned to the first team since Tuesday and has even taken part in the preseason training.

The forward said that he is excited to be part of the team ahead of the new season and that he is looking forward to having a great campaign. Continue reading “Dempsey to train”

Schmetzer Reflects on the First MLS Cup Victory for Seattle Sounders

Seattle Sounders managed to finally win the MLS Cup, something which has eluded them for quite a while.

This was the first MLS Cup title for the club, although they have won several trophies like the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Supporters’ Shield in the last 10 years. However, not many affected the club to win the title especially in the campaign when long-serving coach SigiSchmid departed to be replaced by Brian Schmetzer. The 54-year-old was appointed in August 2016 and it did not look like Seattle Sounderswould in the campaign in a successful manner.

It has not been the case, as a penalty shootout victory over Toronto FC helped the club lift the title for the first time. It was one of the dullest finals in the MLS Cup history, as both teams failed to score in 120 minutes of action. It was also the first time such an event has occurred. Seattle Sounders’Schmetzer Targets Success at the 2016 MLS Cup

Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer says that he is keen on the team getting some confidence before the start of the MLS play-offs.

He has also set a target of winning the MLS Cup this season. The club failed to secure a place in the play-offs of the 2016 MLS Cup in the last two weeks. However, they have a chance to confirm their position with the victory against Real Salt Lake this weekend.Schmetzer replaced Sigi Schmid a few months ago and he has a major job on his hands as far as matching the parts of the former coach.

Schmid is regarded as one of the greatest coaches in the MLS. A proper start forSchmetzer would be winning the MLS Cup in his first season at the club. It will not be easy going by the club’s form in the MLS, although it has been improving in the last few weeks. A run of four consecutive victories in September helped them cement a place closer to the top four. As a result, Seattle Sounders remain in with a chance of reaching the MLS play-offs. After having failed to win in the last two games, it would be difficult for Seattle Sounders to make an impact in the Real Salt Lake match straight away but it would be their motivation.

Seattle Sounders beat Real Salt Lake 2-1

Seattle Sounders continue their recent improvement by beating Real Salt Lake by 2-1.

This is clearly an improvement from a side that has the unwanted record of having lost the most games in the MLS. Against a side that had the possibility to move into the third place of the table, Seattle Sounders did exceptionally well to win the game.

Seattle Sounders manage to dominate the game from the start to the end. Indeed, they ended the game by having twice as much shot on target than their opponents. Indeed they manage to shoot 18 times on target compared to the 9 by their opponent.

Seattle Sounders opened the scoring in the 24th minute after a great start to the game. They did not allow Real Salt Lake a lot of time on the table, and they pressed them high on the pitch. They will be rewarded with a second goal in the 37th minute to make the score 2-0. The first goal was scored by the Uruguay player Lodeiro who showed his quality on a long shot.
