Seattle Sounders have been going to a disastrous run of form in the 2017 MLS campaign, and the club has lost their last three games to drop into 10th place of the Western Conference table.

The club have already fallen 12 points behind table leaders Sporting Kansas City after having played just 11 matches. There is a lot of pressure on manager Brian Schmetzer following this poor start to the campaign, despite coming into the 2017 season as the defending MLS Cup champions. One of the factors for the club’s poor performance has been the frequent unavailability of star players like Clint Dempsey.

The former Fulham forward has been amongst the top scorers at the club with four goals. Yet, he has not been playing consistently. The goal in the 3-0 win over LA Galaxy was the first of the campaign for Seattle Sounders. It has been reported that the forward has not completely recovered from the heart issue that forced the player to miss the second half of last campaign.

Now, though, Brian Schmetzer believes that the player is back to top form and he is very keen on helping Seattle Sounders recover from the poor start to the season.

Even though the club has suffered some heavy defeats against the likes of Chicago Fire and Sporting Kansas City, Schmetzer is confident of getting back to winning ways. “I mean I really hope. That chance he had in the second half, he had some half-chances, he’s played well with the national team. Yes, he is absolutely back. And we’re very pleased to have him back,” said the Seattle Sounders manager.“We’re all getting that chemistry back together. Obviously you saw he [Dempsey] set me up perfectly on the goal and scored his own,” said Jordan Morris. Aside from Dempsey, players like Will Bruin and Nicolas Lodeiro will be key for the club.
